Former Liverpool and Lyon manager Gerard Houllier has denied
speculation that he is in the running for the vacant Czech [url=http://imac.ca/products/motor-grader-blades-fan-nk-jersey.aspx]http://imac.ca/products/motor-grader-blades-fan-nk-jersey.aspx[/url] national
coach's position.
The Frenchman, who left Lyon last summer after steering the club
to two league titles, [url=http://kiddco.com/FormHandling/registration.asp]http://kiddco.com/FormHandling/registration.asp[/url] was reported to have sent in a request to be
considered for the job on Thursday, the daily
Dnes reported.
But Houllier denied he had been in contact with Czech
officials.
"I've been in contact with no-one and no-one has
approached me. To say that I've made an official request is
simply outrageous," Houllier said.
The man tasked with recommending a replacement for Karel
Bruckner, who stepped down after the Czechs crashed out of UEFA
EURO 2008, federation deputy president Vlastimil Kostal, described
Houllier as a "good looking managerial name."
Dnes pointed out Houllier's links with a string of Czech
players, such as midfielders Vladimir Smicer and Patrik Berger and
striker Milan Baros as a point in his favour. The Czech federation
announced on Tuesday that it had delayed until mid-July a decision
on appointing a new national manager.
Frontrunners for the post are Bruckner's assistant and
manager of Czech first division club FK Teplice, [url=http://www.ngf.org/Areas/Pages/ngf.htm]http://www.ngf.org/Areas/Pages/ngf.htm[/url] Petr Rada, and
sporting manager of Sparta Prague, Jozef Chovanec, federation
chiefs said then.
Several foreign managers are also in the frame for the post,
including German Klaus Topmoller, recently sacked by [url=http://www.tosea.net/captcha.aspx]http://www.tosea.net/captcha.aspx[/url] Georgia and
the Brazilian Carlos Alberto Torres, Azerbaijan's manager in
2005.
