You may have chucked the first time up to a misunderstanding on your part, the second time was a little clearer, but the third time it happened, you knew you were working with an inconsistent boss. So how do you deal with it day in and day out without losing your sanity?
There isn much you can do to change the person you work for. He has a series of values (although you may not think so), opinions, and experiences which build his worldview. When world views collide, conflict begins to build. Your stress level increases, you begin to feel resentment, you feel like you want to explode any of this sound familiar?
Unfortunately, working with an individual who changes the rules begins to build a thought process that you would be better off working somewhere else. Let face it, we don quit our jobs, we quit our bosses. So if you enjoy what you do, but don want to leave, yet can seem to resolve the situation, how do you survive?
Do the only think you can do, and that is live up to the expectations. Take care of your responsibilities, your people, and yourself. You will need to develop coping skills and tactics, but most importantly, protect your reputation. If you are able to shield the people who report to you from the indecisiveness of your boss, then your team will continue to perform to your expectations.
Play the game until the rules grate against your moral grain
It not easy working in an environment like this, but if your boss' actions begin to rub against your moral grain,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], then it time to face the conflict with the hopes that something better will come out of it.
