What to wear and where to find it
First of all -- it's going to be hot. REALLY hot. So try to build your travel wardrobe around natural fibers -- cotton,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], linen,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], bamboo,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], silk -- and breezy,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], lightweight pieces. Jeans will feel unbearable; soft linen pants,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], dresses, loose shorts and skirts might make you feel a little more comfortable. For tops, short-sleeved blouses, tees and tank tops should suffice, with a wrap or cardigan in case you go to a nice lunch or dinner. Comfortable shoes are a must, since you'll be doing a lot of walking -- see my earlier recommendations for cute, walkable flats. And don't forget sunglasses and a broad-brimmed hat (not a visor or baseball cap) to shield you from the sun.
Hi there! I love my gold Tory Burch thora flip flops. They look great with just about anything. I bought them last year and have worn them quite a bit. I have not done anything too strenuous or crazy in them though,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], just some neighborhood walking here and there. The problem is that they are a mess. The underside is falling away from the top - they are totally broken. For $115, I feel these flip flops should last more than a year. I have ones that i bought at Old Navy for $1.99 8 years ago that I have walked endless miles in on rugged streets throughout the world and they still look brand new. I'm frustrated. So here's my question - if Bloomingdale's won't take them back (I haven't asked yet) - does anyone know of a place that will repair them? I'm in Silver Spring. Thanks!!
I've never been much of a make-up person,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but I recently started wearing mascara liked the results. I was using the good ol' Maybelline green/pink package. Unfortunately, about 6 weeks in,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], I seem to have developed an allergic reaction -- swelling and discoloration. I do have eczema and am prone to dermatitis, so there ya go. Do you have any suggestions for other makeup brands I could try? I'm a regular user of Origins skin products,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], so maybe that's a good option? thank you!
I'm going to a wedding in July, and place to wear a green (sort of a slightly muted lime green I guess - the color was actually called "clover") strapless dress. Initially, I wasn't going to buy new shoes,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but my only options are black peeptoes or black strappy sandals. I think both look sort of heavy for July against the green dress. I've thought about purchasing either gold strappy heels or maybe some nude pumps. Any suggestions? I like the look of nude pumps with a wood grain heel, but all of those seem to involve platforms,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], which I find difficult to walk in due to their inflexibility. Any suggestions? I don't want to spend more than $80.
A couple weeks ago, I asked a question about finding tacky red plaid schoolgirl skirts and listed all of the retailers I had already tried (pretty much all of the fast-fashion stores plus department stores plus Hot Topic in the area; since I needed a matching pair, thrift stores were not an option.) You were kind enough to point me towards the decidedly NSFW options at Amazon. Unfortunately,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], they're a little too tacky; ideally, I'm looking for something mid-thigh at least. Any other ideas for me? Thanks so much for any and all ideas!
I'm a graduate student in a conservative field and am attending a national conference this summer,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], where I am supposed to wear "business attire." I was wondering how flexible is that term nowadays? I have a great collection of Tahari dresses that I could easily wear with a sweater or jacket,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and it seems unnecessary to go out and buy suits that I will only wear once or twice a year. Would a nice, conservative dress + jacket/sweater + heels be sufficient for business attire, especially in July? I'm a perpetual student so any guidance would be helpful!
Clothes for Seeing the Sights in DC
Hit up REI or similar outdoor store. Find some of the really great synthetics that wick mositure away and dry quickly. Also many have a pretty decent SPF. You can get shorts, pants, shirts and t shirts in these fabrics. Also socks made out of synthetic fibers keep your feet drier and more comfortable. Get a comfortable pair of shoes and break them in starting tomorrow. Modern high tech fabrics beat natural fibers for touring DC. And if you get caught in a t storm they dry very quickly unlike natural fibers. Cabellas should alos carry similar products. ANd you can get rain gear that folds up and can be carried in a bag.
It has been over a year since I welcomed my first child into the world, and I still haven't lost all the baby weight. I have been living in 4 tops and 3 pairs of pants (this includes work and casual clothes) for several months now, and am starting to realize I just need to buck up and buy a functional wardrobe for work and relaxing until I can (hopefully) one day wear some of my slimmer clothes again. The thing is, I am pretty hopeless when it comes to shopping. Big department stores are overwhelming, and I have little energy for shopping at multiple boutiques. Do you have any suggestions for two to three stores that I can buy good quality (but not overly pricey) staples and other clothes to build a basically completely new wardrobe? I can spend up to about $1,000 for the whole thing. Generally, I like Ann Taylor Loft clothes,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but don't particularly like all the dimensional flowers that are on many of their clothes this season (too fussy and trendy for my taste), and like Anthropologie, but shudder at their prices sometimes. Any store suggestions? I would like some classics that are on the feminine, non-fussy/frilly side and that can last and are appropriate for someone in their early 30s. Thanks!
