President Obama's policies
Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], a presence on the campaign trail with fellow Republican Robert F. McDonnell, said Virginia's former attorney general ran an issueoriented campaign but he also emphasized the importance President Obama played in the race.
"First of all,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], you got a great candidate in Bob McDonnell. But four years ago he and Creigh Deeds ran a dead heat,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]," he said.
No doubt Barbour is a old party crone,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but in this case he is right. The big poll number right now is the one asking whether the country is heading in the right direction,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and according to Rasmussen only 33% do as of Oct. 28.
Obama's chief problem is that he's spent the last four months chasing health care when the country is focused on the economy. And for all the money he has collected and spent the unemployment rate keeps inching up. If he doesn't turn that number around by the midterms, his administration is over.
Like it or not the size of the blowout in Virginia is an early indicator. Can Obama turn the corner? Can he show a Clintonesque comeback? Dick Morris,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], who brought Clinton back from the brink, doesn't believe he will. He thinks the Obama administration will stay hard left and as a result the independents will jump ship.
