1ST ROUND MATCHES (GROUP D) June 29 - vs. Norway in Augsburg July 3 - vs. Australia in Bochum July 6 - vs. Brazil in Frankfurt SCOUTING REPORT Strengths: As World Cup debutantes the Africans enter the tournament free of pressure and expectations… In 24-year-old forward Jade Boho, Equatorial Guinea boasts a legitimate goal-scoring threat. The Africans may not be the most technically skilled side, but they do have great athleticism.
Weaknesses: Lack of depth: the Africans only have one or two players of any genuine quality… Inexperience: Equatorial Guinea has never competed at the World Cup and is seen as an international lightweight… A daunting first-round group that includes three tough teams: Brazil and Norway (two of the favourites) and Australia (the reigning Asian champions).
Player to watch: Jade Boho - Boho is a legitimate goal-scoring threat for Equatorial Guinea, having developed her skills in the Spanish first division. Only 24, she boasts youthful energy with a natural goal scoring instinct.
Prospects in Germany: Rank outsiders. It's almost impossible to see Equatorial Guinea earning a single point let alone a winning a game in Germany. Expect Frigerio's team to be athletic, fit and fast but technically they will almost certainly be out of their depth at this level. Its group rivals will expect to win with relative ease. It would be a major surprise if Equatorial Guinea finishes better than fourth in the section.
Soccer Confederation: Confederation of African Football (CAF) Current FIFA world ranking: 61 Team nickname: Nzalang Nacional Team colours: red jerseys/red shorts ROAD TO THE WOMEN'S WORLD CUP 2011 qualification route: Among the emerging African nations of women's soccer,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Equatorial Guinea qualified as runners-up in the 2010 African (CAF) Women Championship. They won the title in 2008 but two years later were beaten finalists. Having topped the group Equatorial Guinea beat hosts South Africa in the semifinals but lost to Nigeria in the Championship game,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], scoring two own goals in the final.
Qualification record: 4 wins,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], 1 loss, 1 tie Goals for: 16 Goals against: 9 Top goal-scorer in qualifying: Salimata Simpore (4) QUALIFYING RESULTS May 23, 2010 - Equatorial Guinea 5,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Namibia 1 Nov. 2,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], 2010 - Equatorial Guinea 2, Cameroon 2 Nov. 5, 2010 - Equatorial Guinea 1,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Algeria 0 Nov. 8,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], 2010 - Equatorial Guinea 3,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Ghana 1 Nov. 11, 2010 - Equatorial Guinea 3,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], South Africa 1 Nov. 14, 2010 - Nigeria 4, Equatorial Guinea 2 WOMEN'S WORLD CUP HISTORY Equatorial Guinea will make its Women's World Cup debut in Germany.
