Bucket Roadster Now And Forever The Ultimate Hot Rod
"Hot Rodding" really started to take root in the 1930's. Drivers, because they always do, took it faster, and they figured out that stripping the car down, made it lighter and faster. Soon hoods, bumpers,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and fenders were being removed,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], just the bare minimum remained.
Many different body styles were available with the Model T, you could get a coupe, a touring car, a roadster,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], or perhaps a delivery truck. Custom bodies,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], trim pieces and grills were also becoming available,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], created by the budding aftermarket industry. By the early 1920's "kit" cars might be purchased with Speedster Sports Car bodies that were developed for that Model T chassis. Model T bodies were being placed on different chassis, and other Ford grills were being used too. Engines are swapped out as the speed parts market exploded onto the scene with a large number of different choices.
In the very root of the earliest racing events, many T-Buckets could be seen roaring round the dry lake bed dirt ovals in SoCal. These races demanded power so streamlining was important. Nitrous, superchargers, and stroker cranks ranked first,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and the body could be channeled and/or narrowed for top aerodynamics.
We can't forget about Roadster Racing! It had been very popular postwar,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and full of topless Model T's. Roadster racers usually had noses and grills resembling the Champ cars seen at the Indy 500 in those days. This body style was soon known as the Track Roadster. Lots of people say that the oval racing roadsters lead to today's ever popular NASCAR racing.
In 1948 the world reached see precisely how awesome home brewed performance might be, using the discharge of the first ever issue of Hotrod Magazine. Model T bodies became "the" popular starting place for everything from show cars,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], race cars and street machines.
In the early 50's when drag racing really started to remove,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], many Model T hot rods were
available at the starting lines. You could find Model T's with every imaginable combination, in the blown Hemi's to the stock flatheads.
Its not possible to talk about the Model T Hot Rod and not mention Ed "Big Daddy" Roth and Rat Fink. Whether it was his cool art or his scratch built cars (many T based), he would gain the earth's attention and receive coverage in several hot rod magazines. He seemed to be partially responsible for the popularity of scale models cars.
In the mid 60's, Model T Hotrod kits started to recognition. Tons of kits were available,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], making the options endless. From the Streetster T Roadster kit using its race chassis and fiberglass body, towards the Kookie Kar T-Bucket kit,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], there was Andy's Instant T's,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the Pro Street T kit,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and also the track roadster Track T kit. Many of these Model T kits continue to be available today.
In the 70's, the nation's Street Rod Association was formed, plus they started to organize some national events. A large number of Model T owners turned up at these events, because the Model T's did, but still do form a large number of the members. Then there is the T only clubs, typically the most popular is probably the National T-Bucket Alliance. This club is a family oriented club,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], focused on T-Bucket fanatics. They hold a national event each year dedicated to their customized Model T's.
The Rod holds fond memories in several people's hearts, whether you remember taking your Hot Rod towards the drive-in,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], or fancy a cruise down old Route 66. The Ford T-Bucket will be the ultimate Hot Rod.
