Beaches in Freeport
Surfside Beach is located a few miles west of Freeport. The beach's website refers to Surfside Beach as the Cradle of Texas,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], where some of the state's original 300 settlers first set foot on Texas soil. This beach is known for its excellent bay and offshore fishing. If you don't have a boat, you can inshore wade fish, bank fish or fish off the long jetty. If you have a boat,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], you can fish off Christmas Bay and San Luis Pass, or venture out to sea. The area has plenty of bait and tackle stores to get any bait and fishing equipment you may need. The beach also offers lots of opportunities for surfing, boating, bird-watching and shelling.
Surfside Beach
Along the western edge of the island of Quintana and several miles south of Surfside Beach lies Quintana Beach,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], home to Quintana's Neotropical Bird Sanctuary,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], a popular bird-watching spot with many trails,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], ponds and park benches as well as Xeriscape Park,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], which offers a hummingbird garden,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], a nature trail and a wooden bridge that crosses a canal. Fishing is available off the Intracoastal Waterway, the Brazos River,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the Fishing Pier, The Jetty's,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and at Morrison Park. Purchase bait and tackle at The Jetty's and Hook Lines Grocery,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the latter of which also offers fishing licenses for sale.

Bryan Beach is located on Farm Road about four miles south of Freeport. As of 2010, this beach is one of the few Texas beaches where you can still drive and camp for free. Like other Texas beaches,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Bryan Beach offers fishing,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], surfing, boating,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], swimming and shelling. Hiking is also an option,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], with the San Bernard National Wildlife Refuge Trail very close by. Even with its many offerings,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the beach has developed a reputation as an ideal spot for relaxing, so you may want to hold off on visiting Bryan Beach until after a day's activities.
