Have you been An aggressive Dresser,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]
I am not sure whether I'd quite class myself as a competitive dresser. It's often asserted women dress to compete against other women,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], not to look good for men. I'd accept that. I've never cared such a man considered my appearance - not even my hubby on my small big day. I'm afraid I took it for granted that he would think I looked beautiful (which he did),[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but then he always does whatever I look like - so I'm rather dismissive of his comments. I've always believed that the only opinion I truly cared about was my very own and I certainly have never entertained the concept that I might be a competitive dresser. A minimum of not until today.
Today,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], I just read an article by Liz Jones,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], a common fashion commentator in the UK who had been once the editor of Marie Claire in the united kingdom, saying that she recognises that she is really a competitive dresser and loves to be the greatest dressed even at funerals. I read might thought 'how ridiculous' until I recalled one of my grandmother's funerals. I attempted to look as glamorous when i possibly could all in black and knew which i would out-dress every other woman who was present. Grieving for that lack of my grandmother who I adored wasn't a high priority at that time.
But it is not only at funerals I have experienced this. I recall the delight I felt after i went to among my nieces weddings wearing a pair of sky high Giuseppe Zannotti white cut away wedges which spawned a range of copies in the shops. I loved those shoes and thus did the majority of the guests. They were the talk from the wedding (following the brides dress of course). My sister who had called us a very rude name when she first saw me because they helped me so tall,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], complained at the end of the day that no one had discussed her 'little sister' - they had all talked about the woman with those shoes! I not ashamed to admit - I went home with a very large smile on my face.
Although I have struggled with my weight at some things in my life,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], I've been able to wow people with my style and set together a look which is uniquely mine. Hey perhaps I'm kidding myself. I am a competitive dresser. I'm not competitive about labels (I'm able to drive them or leave them) and I'm not completive concerning the cost of outfits (I love vintage,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], traditional or designer),[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], however i know that after i go somewhere I'll look different from the rest of the women there.
I have never understood the desire to buy one of the 'in things from the season',[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. If do buy something that is extremely popular I make sure that I actually do something different with it,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. In the recent Royal Wedding I felt extremely sorry for the three women who resulted in in the same blue and white coat,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. Now I'd navigate to the ends of the earth to make sure this couldn't happen to me because I'd be mortified,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. I want to look different,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. If I'd been there I would have wanted to beat that well known competitive dresser Victoria Beckham (though I certainly would have struggled to beat her on the high heel front!)
So although I've always known which i enjoyed looking different from other women I'd never put a label onto it. However I think I'm able to safely admit,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], I am a fully fledged competitive dresser. What about you?
