6 Nation street gang nets 19 arrests,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]
Attorney's Office in Chicago says among those arrested is Francisco Masias, a high-ranking leader from the gang.
The gang is based out of Chicago's Little Village community but agents executed search warrants at four locations in Chicago and Berwyn during yesterday's roundup,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
As well as the people taken into custody,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], agents also seized four rifles,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], eight handguns, ammunition,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], nearly a kilogram of cocaine,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], a half-kilo of marijuana,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], live pot plants and most $12,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],000 cash.
Through the span of the investigation,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], more than $1 million worth of pot was seized,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], along with 200 ecstasy tablets,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], 17 handguns and an assault rifle. The investigation began in June of 2009 and undercover agents carried out a number of controlled drug buys.
"We still exert pressure on street gang-controlled retail sales of narcotics,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]," said Patrick J. Fitzgerald, United States Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois. "This case shows the dangerous combination of gangs,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], guns and drugs,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], which afflict our community and should be stopped."
Joining Fitzgerald in the news conference announcing the arrests today was Chicago Police Superintendent Jody Weis. He told reporters,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], "The Chicago Police Department will work with our state and federal partners to research those allegedly responsible for victimizing our communities once we make an effort to enhance the standard of living for all Chicago residents."
